Our Commitment to Accuracy
Zeach exists because beach visitors deserve accurate, independently verified information about the places they plan to visit. Every page on this site is grounded in official certification data from the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and cross-referenced with government tourism board publications, national environmental agencies, and publicly available water quality monitoring data.
We do not accept payment from beach operators, tourism boards, or hotel groups to feature or promote any beach. Our editorial independence is non-negotiable.
Official Sources Only
All certification data sourced from FEE Blue Flag and national affiliates. No third-party review aggregators.
Local Author Expertise
Each beach page written by a regional researcher with direct knowledge of that coastline.
Annual Verification
Beach status verified each season. Pages updated when certification data changes.
Editorial Independence
No payment for placement. Affiliate links disclosed. Advertiser relationships do not influence content.
Data Sources
Our beach certification data is sourced exclusively from official and governmental bodies. We do not use user-submitted reviews, social media posts, or unverified third-party databases as primary sources.
| Source | What We Use It For | Update Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| FEE Blue Flag Global | Official certification list, beach counts, award years | Annually (spring) |
| National FEE affiliate organisations | Country-specific certification data, water quality classifications | Annually |
| EU Bathing Water Directive database | Water quality ratings for European beaches (Excellent/Good/Sufficient/Poor) | Annually |
| National tourism boards | Beach descriptions, facilities, access information, local regulations | As updated |
| OpenStreetMap / Wikidata | Geographic coordinates, nearest city distances, transport links | As updated |
| UNESCO / IUCN databases | Protected area designations, marine protected area boundaries | As updated |
Author Standards
Zeach follows a multi-author model where each beach page is assigned to a regional writer with documented expertise in that coastline. This is different from many travel sites where a single author covers every country.
Regional Author Requirements
Every regional author contributing to Zeach must:
- Have direct, first-hand familiarity with the coastline they cover
- Demonstrate knowledge of local Blue Flag certification processes and seasonal patterns
- Source all factual claims to official publications — no anecdotes presented as fact
- Clearly distinguish personal observation from verified data
- Disclose any commercial relationships with beach operators or accommodation providers
Editorial Review Process
All content is reviewed by Arjun Nair, Zeach's Lead Coastal Research Editor, before publication. Arjun holds a background in coastal geography and has spent over a decade researching Blue Flag certification standards across South and Southeast Asia. His editorial role covers:
- Accuracy verification against primary data sources
- Consistency of Blue Flag criteria explanations across the site
- Factual claims about water quality, facilities, and certification history
- Tone and editorial voice standards
Content Tiers and Update Scheduling
Not all beaches receive the same level of editorial treatment. We use a three-tier content framework based on the depth and quality of available data:
- Tier A — Comprehensive pages (1,800–2,500 words) for beaches with full certification data, coordinates, water quality classifications, and regional author coverage. These pages are fully indexed and updated annually.
- Tier B — Standard pages (1,000–1,500 words) for beaches with partial data. Indexed but flagged for enrichment. Updated when additional data becomes available.
- Tier C — Holding pages with minimal data. Marked
noindexuntil sufficient information exists to create a genuinely useful page. Never de-indexed permanently — these are development queues, not abandoned pages.
AI and Technology Disclosure
Zeach uses technology tools to assist with data processing, translation, and content structuring. Our editorial policy on these tools:
- All factual claims about beaches, certification status, and water quality are sourced from the official data listed above — not generated by AI systems.
- Descriptive content is authored by human regional writers. Technology may assist with research, structure, and editing, but the substantive content reflects genuine editorial judgement.
- We do not use AI-generated images. Images on this site are either our own or sourced from properly licensed collections.
- We do not label pages "AI-assisted" as a blanket disclaimer. Our editorial standards apply uniformly regardless of the tools used in production.
Affiliate and Commercial Disclosure
Zeach may include affiliate links to accommodation booking platforms, travel insurance providers, and equipment retailers. When we do:
- Affiliate links are clearly marked as such
- Commercial relationships do not influence which beaches we cover, how we rate them, or what we say about them
- We do not accept payment for favourable editorial coverage
